Village of Kingston Equity and Anti-Racism Plan
What is this plan about?
The Village of Kingston has created a plan that focuses on addressing systemic hate, inequity, and racism faced by underrepresented and underserved communities within our community.
Why is this plan important?
In 2022, Nova Scotia passed a law called the Dismantling Racism and Hate Act, which focuses on addressing racism and discrimination. The Village of Kingston is committed to supporting this effort by making local programs, services, and communication more equitable for all, including Indigenous peoples, African Nova Scotians, 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, seniors, and other underrepresented groups.
Key Focus Areas
- 1. Community Engagement & Consultation
Foster inclusive dialogue and decision-making by involving residents, marginalized groups, and regional partners in anti-racism efforts.
- 2. Data, Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
Use community feedback and data collection to guide strategies, measure progress, and ensure accountability.
- 3. Anti-Racism Training, Awareness & Education
Promote cultural understanding and awareness through targeted education, training, and public events.
- 4. Equitable Hiring & Promotion Practices
Ensure municipal employment practices are inclusive and representative of the community’s diversity.
Main Action Items
- Establish an Anti-Racism and Equity Committee to oversee implementation.
- Collaborate with the Municipality of the County of Kings and local organizations on shared inclusion strategies.
- Actively engage Indigenous, African Nova Scotian, francophone, and other marginalized communities.
- Conduct community surveys to assess experiences with racism and inclusion.

What’s Next?

By working together, Kingston aims to become a more inclusive and supportive place for all!
