Our commitment to making this website, and Village information, easy for everyone to use.

Our commitment

A website everyone can use

The Village of Kingston wants everyone to be able to find information and use our services online, including people with disabilities and people using assistive technology such as screen readers, magnifiers or voice control.

This website was designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, and we keep working to improve it. This supports Nova Scotia’s goal, under the Accessibility Act, of an accessible province by 2030.

What we’ve done

Accessibility features

  • Text and background colours chosen for strong contrast
  • Pages that work with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline
  • Headings and landmarks that screen readers can navigate
  • Text descriptions for meaningful images
  • Layouts that adapt to phones, tablets and zoomed-in text
  • Plain-language page content wherever possible
Known limitations

Where we’re still improving

Some content doesn’t yet meet the standard we’re aiming for:

  • Older PDF documents. Some older agendas, minutes, reports and forms are scanned copies that screen readers may not be able to read.
  • Content from other services. The map, events calendar and online booking forms come from Google and Microsoft, and their accessibility is controlled by those companies.

If you can’t use any document or page, we’ll get you the information another way.

Need another format?

Ask us, and we’ll help

We can provide Village information in an accessible format, such as a readable document, large print, or by reading it to you over the phone. Tell us what you need and how best to reach you.
