Budget 2010/11

The Village
Commission has approved its 2010/11 Operating Budget and five-year Capital Budget.
The approved budget maintains existing services
and includes new initiatives such as:
• Initiation of village tax billing and
collection
• Long term funding strategies for capital
programs
• Improved communications with residents
• Implementation of proactive infrastructure
maintenance program
• Providing recreation opportunities through a
partnership with the Western Kings Arena
In addition to keeping existing services intact,
the following new initiatives were approved:
• Trail definition improvements - $5,000
• Centennial Park bandstand improvements -
$2,000
• Improved field maintenance - $4,000
• Power doors for library and information centre
- $4,500
• New salt spreader - $7,500
Also, the 2010/11 capital budget was approved,
with the following projects:
• SCADA system (monitoring of pumping stations
-$75,000
• Treatment plant repairs - $15,000
• Lift station repairs - $15,000
• Sewer line repairs and replacements - $30,000
• Sidewalk repairs and upgrades - $36,000
• Civic building upgrades - $10,000
• Barn improvements - $20,000
• Stronach Park improvements - $15,000
These new initiates and funding for the capital
program will increase the residential rate by 2
cents per $100 of assessed value. Also, the
Commission determined to increase the sewer by
$12.90 (for a single dwelling) or 4.8%. These
increases will ensure the fiscal stability of
the village and provide for current and future
programs and projects.
