Active Kids Healthy Kids
Active Kids Healthy Kids is a strategic and
comprehensive multi-year plan for improving physical
activity opportunities and increasing participation
rates for infants to 18-year olds. It also recognizes
the integral role of family and therefore has some
emphasis on awareness, education, and entry-level
activity for the adult members of family. The strategy
aims to serve those who are inactive to be active and
those who are already active to remain active through
into adulthood.
The Kingston Recreation Department targets youth by
partnering with area schools to both increase and
maintain recreational activities and foster an active
lifestyle.
Through this strategic partnership, daily physical
activity (DPA) is now a Health Promoting School
curriculum requirement in both Pine Ridge School and
Kingston Elementary.
Typical after school programs with take place at various
times throughout the year include:
• Primary to Grade 2 beginner gymnastics
• Running club
• Indoor soccer
• Indoor basketball
• Badminton
• Cheerleading
• Table tennis
• Other structured activities
